CIFAL Atlanta International Internship Program

  • Internship located in Curitiba, Brazil 

    Program Description: Our center is offering one student the opportunity to intern at CIFAL Curitiba, a United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)-affiliated training center hosted by the Federation of Industries of the State of Parana in Curitiba, Brazil. Applicants should have a strong interest in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as in Transparency and Competitiveness, Road Safety, Creative Economy, STEM Education, Anti-corruption and Compliance or Energy Policy. Graduate Students as well as Junior/Senior Undergraduate Students are encouraged to apply. Currently NOT accepting applications. 

    Interns in the past have been assigned the following tasks: 

    • Assist in organizing seminars and other events on CIFAL Curitiba’s thematic areas: SDGs, urban governance and planning, economic development, social inclusion and environmental sustainability.
    • Conduct research that may provide necessary input for outreach and training materials
    • Assist in the preparation, writing, editing and dissemination of learning materials and other documents related to CIFAL Curitiba’s projects and events
    • Assist and provide support in the preparation of presentations, drafts, data analysis for activities
    • Provide documentation support (photos, minutes, reports)
    • Assist in developing future training activities, i.e. suggest innovative teaching methods, possible collaborators and resource persons

    Program Cost: Food costs are estimated at $200/month and transportation costs are estimated at $50/month.  Student must purchase mandatory international insurance and airfare will be covered by the student. Please note that estimated costs are subject to change. 

    Program Dates: 2 months minimum; 3 months preferred  
    Housing: Multiple options for housing are available. You can easily find a room in a shared apartment for 500-800 BRL per month (140-220 USD). If you prefer to live alone, the estimated price for a studio apartment in the city center is 985 BRL per month (279.8 USD).

    CIFAL Curitiba

  • Internship located in Durban, South Africa 


    Program Description: Our center is offering students the opportunity to intern at CIFAL Durban, a United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)-affiliated training center hosted by eThekwini Municipality—Durban, South Africa’s city government. Applicants should have a strong interest in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as Urban Governance and Planning and Economic Development, including Urban Strategic Planning, Municipal Human Settlements, Solid Waste Management, Water and Sanitation Management or Informal Economy Development.  Graduate Students as well as Junior/Senior Undergraduate Students are encouraged to apply.  Currently NOT accepting applications.  


    Interns in the past have been assigned the following tasks:

    Program Dates: 2 months minimum; 3 months preferred  
    Housing: Housing is arranged by CIFAL Durban in a self-catering bed and breakfast establishment for approximately $800/month.

    CIFAL Durban

  • Internship located in Antwerp, Belgium 


    Program Description: Our center is offering one student the opportunity to intern at CIFAL Flanders, a United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)-affiliated training center located in Antwerp, Belgium.  CIFAL Flanders conducts “Action Learning” trainings to empower leaders in society and to link theory to practice in national and subnational policies, local authorities, trade unions, civil society, academia and businesses. The power of action learning is built on a process combining theory with practice during an interactive peer-to-peer visit working on real challenges. The focus is to explore the sustainability initiatives of industry and international frameworks, theoretical models and best practices using the knowledge and skills of a small group of executives combined with skilled questioning, to re-interpret old and familiar concepts and produce fresh ideas. 

    CIFAL Flanders has the ambition to be the benchmark in terms of “Action Learning for Sustainability Leadership” which consist of innovative and practical learning and training methods for business ethics and sustainability, complementary to existing academic and business school programs, within the business community, government, the society, trade unions, and the academic world.  The intern will assist with the organization's strategic and training activities and services.  Graduate students who are interested in Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development as well as in dealing with governments, companies, civil society, the academic world, foundations, and the United Nations are encouraged to apply. Masters level or equivalent in Business, Public Management, Economic Studies, International Business Relations, Strategic Management are preferred.  

    Interns in the past have been assigned the following tasks: 

    • Responsible for the strategic execution of CIFAL Flanders’ Business plan, including the establishment and execution of Action Learning – training projects
    • Review English texts by CIFAL Flanders
    • Preparation of documentation and workshops
    • Assist office staff during the events organized by CIFAL Flanders and in their evaluation afterwards
    • Assist staff with administrative and other tasks as needed

    Student must have excellent written and oral skills and be proficient or fluent in either Dutch or French. IT and database management expertise preferred. Website management and social media experience are an asset.  Proven ability to work in a multicultural environment, good team orientation, ability to multitask, and work independently are a plus. Currently NOT accepting applications.

    Program Cost: Meals and transportation costs are estimated at $400 per month. Transportion tickets will be reimbursed for transportation within Antwerp and meetings within Belgium.  Please note that estimated costs are subject to change.

    Housing: CIFAL Flanders will assist with local integration. Housing will be located on the Antwerp Management School campus. Student Hostel housing includes single rooms with a private bath and shared kitchen starting at 525 Euros per month. Utilities are 70 Euros per month.

    CIFAL Flanders

  • Internship located in Jeju, South Korea  

    Program Description: Our center is offering one student the opportunity to intern at CIFAL Jeju, a United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)-affiliated training center located in Jeju, South Korea. Applicants should be enrolled in graduate programs related to international affairs, development studies, communications or other related social sciences.  Graduate Students as well as Junior/Senior Undergraduate Students are encouraged to apply.

    Interns in the past have been assigned the following tasks: 

    • Working on projects related to capacity building of developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region
    • Assistance in preparing workshops and seminars on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including environmental sustainability, human security, sustainable tourism and youth engagement
    • Background research on workshop topics
    • Attending workshops and seminars
    • Assistance during workshops 
    • Evaluation of projects including compiling evaluation forms 
    • Assistance in drafting and preparing official documents

    Program Cost: Meals and transportation costs are estimated at $300 per month ($200 food and $100 transportation). Airfare will be covered by the student and cost will depend on the flights chosen. *The cost of airfare will be reimbursed by CIFAL Jeju at the conclusion of the internship. 

    Program Dates: 2 month minimum; 3 months preferred  

    Housing: CIFAL Jeju will assist with local integration and will help facilitate housing arrangements. Single apartments are available at a cost of approximately $600 per month.

    CIFAL Jeju

  • Internship located in Málaga, Spain  


    Program Description: Our center is offering one student the opportunity to intern at CIFAL Curitiba, a United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)-affiliated training center that was established in March 2019 as a non-governmental non-profit entity. Graduate Students as well as Junior/Senior Undergraduate Students fluent in Spanish are encouraged to apply. 

    CIFAL Málaga aims to: 

    • Support the activities of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)
    • Carry out training, informative and awareness-raising activities
    • Support the activities of International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders affiliated to UNITAR that offer training opportunities and exchange of good practices, tools and strategies between local and regional authorities, international agencies, private sector and civil society
    • Support local actors by improving their decision-making processes.

Graduate Students as well as Junior/Senior Undergraduate Students are encouraged to apply. 

    CIFAL Newcastle’s offers UN certified education, bespoke capability development training and provide access to innovative world-class research and partnerships.  Its programs and courses are best suited to the public sector (local councils and state governments), businesses, not-for-profit, civic leaders, youth and members of the community.  Interested students will assist the Center in these service offerings.

    Program Description: Our center is offering one student the opportunity to intern at CIFAL Istanbul, a United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)-affiliated training center hosted by Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul, Turkey. Applicants should have an interest in advancing and enhancing capacity on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for public and private sector leaders, NGO representatives, academics, local authorities, and students. Graduate Students as well as Junior/Senior Undergraduate students are encouraged to apply.
     
    CIFAL Istanbul’s thematic areas are Economic Development and social inclusion and they are seeking students studying or interested in those two areas.     CIFAL Miami

  • Internship located in Geneva, Switzerland  

    Program Description: Our center is offering students the opportunity to intern at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Headquarters in Geneva Switzerland. Graduate Students as well as Junior/Senior Undergraduate Students are encouraged to apply. Applicants with a strong interested in the UN Sustainable Development Goals are encouraged to apply as well.  

    Interns in the past have been assigned the following tasks: 

    • Assist in organizing seminars and other events 
    • Conduct research that may provide necessary input for outreach and training materials 
    • Assist in the preparation, writing, editing and dissemination of learning materials and other documents related to UNITAR’s projects and events 
    • Assist and provide support in the preparation of presentations, drafts, data analysis for activities 
    • Provide documentation support (photos, minutes, reports) 
    • Assist in developing future training activities, i.e. suggest innovative teaching methods, possible collaborators and resource persons

    Program Cost: UNITAR will provide a stipend of $700/month for each intern. Grocery costs are estimated at $200/month and transportation costs are estimated at $50/month. Student must purchase mandatory international insurance. Airfare will be covered by the student and cost will depend on the flights chosen. 

    Program Dates: 3 months minimum 

    Housing: Multiple housing options available within and near Geneva. Shared and single furnished rooms and apartments are less expensive in France ($500-$750/month) and are 20-30 minutes to UNITAR using public transportation. UNITAR staff will assist in locating suitable housing.
