Education for Sustainability and Human Rights Fellowship Overview

Program Dates:  June 2-8, 2024

Program Location:  Kennesaw State University

Application Deadline:  April 15, 2024

The Miner Anderson Family Foundation and the Kennesaw State University Office of Global Education are pleased to announce the 2024 Education for Sustainability and Human Rights Fellowship. Inspired by the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 2030 Framework of Education for Sustainable Development, the program will consist of a week-long residential institute and monthly follow-up meetings that will foster dialogue among educators regarding linkages between global and local topics. The program aims to create a network of K-12 teachers for collaboration, curriculum development, and instruction for authentic student learning.

By the end of the program, participants will authentically examine and integrate human rights as well as sustainable development issues and initiatives into their students’ educational experiences. Ultimately, the program goal is to prepare young citizens with the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable lifestyles, cultural diversity, gender equality, and a culture of peace and non-violence through principles of human rights.

During the free, 6-day residential institute, fellows will:

  • Learn about the UN's Sustainable Development Goals
  • Gain a deep understanding of the main principles in human rights education
  • Explore the attributes of global citizenship
  • Work with fellow teachers to develop ideas on how to implement these values in the classroom
  • Visit Atlanta's Martin Luther King Jr. Center and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.

The fellowship includes a $300 stipend, hotel accommodations, and all meals.  In addition, participants who complete the residential institute and monthly meetings will qualify for a microcredential (Level II Badge) offered by Kennesaw State University’s School of Continuing Education.

Teachers from Georgia and surrounding states are encouraged to apply. Please note that only 15 fellows will be selected for the program.
